For this prompt I chose to blog about one of my favorite movies, Love & Basketball. From the cover of the DVD, you can basically tell what the entire movie will be based on. When looking at the only the cover for the first time, I thought the picture implied that the two people were in love with each other, but they also shared a love for basketball. I believe the intended audience for this movie is teen girls. This movie is all about love, drama and relationship problems, and from my knowledge that is intended for a teen girl audience.
I think the picture and title of the movie go
hand-in-hand with each other, because the picture actually shows the meaning of
the title. When looking at DVD covers, you will only get a general idea of what
the movie is about, if you get that. I believe if you have a picture that doesn’t
really tell you what the movie is about, you will more than likely not be
interested in it any longer. Anytime I am looking for a new movie to watch, I
look at both the cover and the title to see if it looks interesting. I believe
a DVD cover is like the first few pages of a book, when reading a new book if
the first couple of pages aren’t interesting, then you may imply that the rest
of the book isn’t either. That is the type of mind setting I have when it comes
to movies. I love watching movies all the time and most of my favorite movies
have a really good covers that match the titles. When doing this project in
class, it made me realize how I actually rely on pictures to give me the
meaning of the story, because to me that is the first thing to catch my
attention.

I agree the picture and DVD title are definitely the first two things I look at to determine whether or not I would want to watch it.
ReplyDeleteThey say "Never judge a book by its cover" but I don't buy into that. I think that there as consumers of texts we rely heavily on what cover pictures can tell us about what we are about to participate in.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I Love this movie!
