One of my passions in life is being around babies. Since I was little being around babies has been has always held my interest and because of this I plan on becoming a Neonatal Nurse. Many people do not know what a neonatal nurse is, so I guess I will tell you. A neonatal nurse specializes in the care of newborn babies. As this specialize nurse you are able to choose from three different levels in which you would like to work on. The first unit is where the “healthy” babies are cared for, the second is the housing for premature newborns and the third is the intensive care unit. Newborns in the intensive care unit are the ones who need special breathing and heart-regulating machines, because it would be impossible if they did it on their own. I plan on working in this unit, because I want to do all I can to ensure the survival of these innocent babies. I know you all are thinking, “How could I want to be around sick babies all the time?” but I don’t think of them just as sick babies, but as innocent lives who just want to have a future. In becoming a nurse of course I must complete nursing school and this is where the problem comes in. Illinois State’s nursing program is very competitive and it is extremely hard to get in. I am extremely worried that I will have to transfer to another university where I did get accepted. I am currently working on completing all my perquisites and keeping my gpa as high as possible. I know I’m probably just being paranoid and hopefully I will get accepted into the nursing program. This is my passion in life and I plan on working my hardest to ensure my life is a success.

  1. Wow...that is AMAZING. I'm a sensitive person and don't think I could handle seeing a newborn die in intensive care without breaking down. Honestly, you are a brave, strong, and compassionate woman for making this your career goal.

Good luck with the nursing program. I'm sure if you work at it, you'll be a shoe-in.
